About Rowena

I love upholstery, I love making. I love having a thought and making it a reality. And really love being able to collaborate with my clients to help make them their thoughts reality. I love creating something that will be adored by my clients for years to come. The piece sent to me often having already been in their family for generations. Chairs have the ability to be art but still be functional. The comfort of your favourite chair is the very essence of home. Making us all we belong. Each piece I create is a creation with my client, using their taste and needs to inform the choice of fabrics I send their way. It is important that the piece is an expression of them. Likewise for your business. Your choice of furniture and the level of comfort you offer clients can share a lot about your ethos and company. I can help you work out how to communicate that in seating format.

I have been making things my whole life. From the time I was seven and taught myself how to make a cube from a piece of paper betcause I want to build a house but only had paper and tape. To my sculpture degree, in which, despite it being conceptual, every piece I did was built beautifully, to now.. I am a fully qualified, experienced and excited upholsterer! I have always been all about the 3D. For me visualising something I will create is second nature. I have always worked in the creative industries, teaching ceramics, darkroom skills, kids art workshops to working in event decor, which is where I discovered my love of fabrics. Which eventually started my upholstery journey. I studied upholstery for three years and am fully qualified by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF). I have also worked for several other upholsterers while gaining experience. I am also proud to be a journey man member of The Traditional Guild of Upholsterers. Which give me access to some of the greatest upholstery minds with lifetimes of experience between them.

I am always creating. Even in my sleep I will be making adjustments to current projects. waking up knowing exactly what I want to add or change. I look at a piece and see all the multitudes of possibility. I adore colour and texture but understand the need for balance and that sometimes an understated piece is exactly what that particular space may need to really bring it to life. I put a lot of myself into everything I do, I don’t really know any other way. It is so important to me that my clients are happy and comfortable with my work and that it turns out even better than they imagined. Ever the creative, I also enjoy designing and making pieces from scratch. I am always happy to collaborate on almost anything. Either taking the lead with a general idea or using my skills to bring your specific dream in to reality. Whatever it is I can make it. Just ask my boy here…
