Bespoke Upholstery Services

Traditional Upholstery

I love traditional upholstery, it feels like sculpture and history all at the same time. I have extensive experience dealing with older pieces. I can reupholster from frame up with traditional techniques, using fibre and hair. In some cases it is possible to reuse some parts of the original upholstery. If it is warranted for the piece.  With something of significant age it can be beneficial to retain as many original features as possible. This not only helps it maintain any financial value but also some of its authenticity. It’s incredibly important to treat these older pieces, that may have been reupholstered numerous times, with the love and respect they deserve with bespoke upholstery. I can also do any necessary repairs to the frame, using techniques from that period to keep the piece authentic and strong for years to come.

Modern Upholstery

Modern upholstery has developed for a reason. It offers a more affordable but still comfortable range of seating. At lot of contemporary designs would not even be possible with the traditional materials and techniques. The term ‘modern’ in upholstery, refers to pieces designed and made after 1950, predominantly using foam. So even a ‘modern’ piece can have great sentimental value for someone and may have been in their family as long as they remember. Modern upholstered pieces are everywhere, but that does not mean you can’t have a beautiful, unique, one-of-a-kind piece. I offer a recover service for pieces that are structurally sound but just need a nice new coat. I can also rebuild using modern techniques from frame making any necessary frame repairs. Creating truly bespoke upholstery, just for you.

Bespoke Cushions

Whether it’s totally bespoke seat cushions, or taking that little window seat and turning it into a cosy nook. A beloved Ercol sofa or an outdoor seating area, I can do it all with bespoke upholstery.  Making you the perfectly fitting cushions, advising on everything from what style fabric, to what type of inner would be best and what the more sustainable options might be. All the time taking your needs and wants into account. I can also recover existing cushions. Anything from your living room scatters to your corner sofa. As well as refilling exiting covers of cushions that might be a bit lumpy and uncomfortable.

I love making, I am always making or designsing something. I learn the techniques and skills I need to take what’s in my brain and make it a reality. I draw, design, computer design and crochet. It’s not just upholstery! In my shop you will find all sorts of things that were once just in my brain. from simple but gorgeous bespoke quilted cushions to crochet and leather hand bags. A lot of my none upholstery makes are all about using up waste form the upholstery work.

Because of the skill of turning a thought in to reality, I can also help you design and make the perfect piece for you. Whether that’s a beautiful flower laden cushion, a chair for your child, or the perfect sofa for your new pad. I have the skills and enthusiasm to help you realise your idea. Including getting the frame designed and made. I can also use the leftover fabric from whatever piece we do for you, to make, bespoke cushions or even a bespoke super comfy pet bed for your most spoilt fluff pot. Fabric

With my bespoke upholstery service, whatever piece you have, I can help you to choose the right fabric. Whether that’s simple and classic, a funky bold mix or anything in between. I am also happy to take the lead and create something never seen before or help you do the same. I will send fabric samples to your home so you can take you time and mull them over. This means you can have them in your environment, lay them on the chair, feel them. See how they work for you in your space. Often it can take time to narrow down the perfect fabric. If it’s not in the first batch I will keep researching and sending you samples, until we have found ‘the one’ together. Part of the beposke upholstery service is taking our time, together, to make sure you are truly happy with your choices.

Quality and Sustainability

I am committed to being as sustainable as possible while still meeting all the necessary safety and fire regulations. I can advise you on the best sustainable options for your piece and help you balance those choices against the costs involved. I always endeavour to give you the best value for money while keep the quality of our work at the highest standard with our bespoke upholstery service. I am also always trying to make our working practices as sustainable as possible. With things like renewable energy powering the workshop and using as little plastic as possible, only when it is absolutely necessary and then making sure it is reused. Sustainability is something that is always ongoing as new products are developed and new resources become available.

“Inherited a structurally sound but unflatteringly dressed tub chair. Rowena gave it a facelift and fabulous new outfit and I swear it's 10 x more comfy to sit in.”
